If you would go with EXACTLY the same layout with new cabinets you could possibly have the cabinets removed with the counters intact and then moved to the new cabinets. Every situation will present its own set of difficulties. While most people will usually get both their countertops and cabinets replaced simultaneously some homeowners opt for one or the other.
I am working with someone who wanted to save their counters but change their cabinets. A better option is refacing. It would be easier to pry up your countertop with a crowbar but that would leave some marks.
Removing cabinets without uninstalling the countertop is just a matter of being patient and thinking things though as you go. Its not impossible to remove your granite countertop without damaging your cabinets but it will take some patience. Our countertop was a custom homemade job and the old DIY-er who originally attached this countertop REALLY attached it.
